Inishwallah

When Kartika and her Inishbofin husband decided to move back to this Atlantic island they brought a little piece of her Keralan heritage with them.

You'd be forgiven for thinking you had sniffed too much glue for breakfast when a London bus appears out of nowhere whilst strolling along a quiet country road on a remote island in the Atlantic!

Parked outside a lovely white house with views out to the sea, Inishwallah is the food baby of Kartika. Whilst plating up panko breaded pollock tacos and pork dumplings, Kartika told us her story. Hailing from a Keralan family, she was born in Tennessee and met her Inishbofin husband while living in New York many years ago. The couple returned to the island several years ago and set up this amazing food truck in their garden.

Transporting the bus to the island couldn't have been an easy task and it took a while for the tides to be just right before it could be ferried across from the mainland. However, ‘must is a great master’ and she did it! For four years, Kartika has been serving locals and surprising unsuspecting visitors to the island.

Chances are that you have travelled further than Kartika’s ingredients. Using locally caught fish and reared lamb, Kartika is delivering street food like no other! There are also amazing vegan options for you plant based heroes out there.

I was so fortunate to spend my birthday at Inishwallah this year and when Kartika caught wind that we were having a low key celebration she brought over a little birthday cake.

The food is so delicious that we returned the following day to sample more of Kartika's divine Keralan street food.

As if Inishbofin isn't unique enough, this brightly coloured bus is another reason to visit the island of the white cow

Bonus: Inishwallah is dog friendly and bowls of water are provided for salty sea dogs 🐾
